Lagos building collapse: APC mourns victims, commiserate with Lagosians

- The All Progressives Congress has sympathised with the families of those that lost their lives in the Lagos building collapse

- A three-storey building collapsed in the Itafaji area of Lagos Island on Wednesday, March 13, killing scores of school children

- The APC commiserated with the government and people of Lagos state over the incident

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that it is deeply saddened by the collapsed of a building housing a school and residential units in Itafaji, Lagos Island area of Lagos state.

Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC national publicity secretary, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, March 14, said the incidence which led to several deaths and injuries, particularly among children was avoidable, NAN reports.

Legit.ng notes that Issa-Onilu said: “When we lose our loved ones, it is never easy, particularly when they are children lost to such horrific and avoidable building collapse.

“We sympathise with the families of the dead victims and pray for the speedy and full recovery of the injured.

“We also pray for the safe rescue of those still reportedly trapped in the collapsed building rubble,“ the APC spokesman said."

He commiserated with the government and people of Lagos state over the incident, saying that the APC was worried that the frequency of building collapse and its attendant human casualties had become abnormal.

He stressed that relevant regulatory authorities across the country must therefore, do all that was necessary to prevent a re-occurrence of these avoidable building collapses.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that an undisclosed number of children of a primary school were said to have been killed after a three-storey building collapsed in Lagos state on Wednesday, March 13.

Other persons were believed to be trapped in the debris of the collapsed structure which was reportedly housing a primary school on the top floor.

The building located at the Itafaji area of Lagos Island was reported to be a residential building with several apartments.

The building collapse was also confirmed by Kehinde Adebayo, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.
