Kano guber: INEC, security agents were compromised - CUPP heads to court to challenge Ganduje’s victory

- The CUPP in Kano says it will challenge Governor Ganduje’s electoral victory in court

- The CUPP said thuggery and vote-buying were reported in almost all the polling units where the Kano re-run was conducted

- The coalition said the most disheartening issue was that card readers were not used during the election

The electoral victory of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano is set to be challenged in court by the state chapter of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).

The development was made public by the CUPP Kano chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi Raji, while addressing newsmen, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Raji disclosed that the CUPP, which consists of 42 political parties, had resolved to seek legal redress over the matter.

He said: “Thuggery and vote-buying were reported in almost all the polling units where the re-run was conducted. There were also reports of loss of lives and other election malpractices under the watch of INEC and security officials.

“It is evident that INEC and security agencies were compromised.

“It is clear that the level of violence recorded during the March 9 gubernatorial election that led to the cancellation of some polling units is far less than what was recorded during the 23rd March rerun poll, yet the electoral body turned a blind eye on the happenings by accepting and announcing the results.

“To our dismay, the worst disheartening issue is that card reader was not used during the election.”

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejected the declaration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state as the governor-elect by the Independent National EIectoral Commission (INEC).

The party said its candidate, Abba K. Yusuf, was the rightful winner of the keenly contested election, saying any declaration that does not reflect such cannot stand.

In a statement sent to journalists by its national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, on Sunday, March 24, the party described the supplementary election in the state as a mere figure-allocating exercise by compromised INEC officials.
