Jubilation as BUK gets 36 new professors, 40 associate professors, 227 students awarded scholarship

- Bayero University Kano has promoted 36 of its academic members to the rank of professorship

- The institution also approved the promotion of its 40 teaching staff to the ranks of associate professorship

- In the same vein, 227 students of the institution have been awarded scholarship by philanthropists

The governing council of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has conferred the revered academic tittles of professorship and associate professorship to 36 and 40 members of its academic staff respectively.

The development was disclosed by the BUK registrar, Hajiya Fatima Binta Mohammed, who said the promotion was approved at the 13th governing council meeting of the university held on Thursday, March 7, 2019, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the appointments took effect from October 2018 according to Hajiya Mohammed, who also doubles as the secretary of the council.

The registrar also said that eight non-teaching staff members were promoted to the ranks of deputy registrars, deputy bursar, deputy directors and assistant chief technician respectively.

Among the newly promoted professors are: Basheer Abdulkadir Zubair Chedi, now a professor of pharmacology and therapeutics; and Musa Aliyu now a professor of pharmacology; Ibrahim Magaji Barde, branch chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), BUK chapter now professor of accounting. Professor Kabiru Tahir Hamid (accounting and finance), Ahmad Magaji of the department of Nigerian languages and Ya’u Haruna Usman, who is now a professor of adult education.

The newly promoted professors, who are females, are Professor Dije Muhammad Sulaiman (accounting); Professor Hannatu Sabo Ahmad (accounting) and Professor Amina Mustapha (agric economics and extension), who is the deputy director of outreach and publications of the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA), and others.

Hajiya Mohammed also disclosed that a total of 227 students of the BUK have been given indigent scholarship awards of N50, 000 each for the 2018/2019 academic session.

According to the report, the scholarship award is issued annually by philanthropic individuals and organizations.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the University of Lagos said it would be graduating over 8,000 students during its 2017/2018 academic session convocation ceremonies scheduled for April 1 to April 5.

The vice chancellor of the institution, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, disclosed this in an interview on Thursday, March 7, in Lagos.
