IT helps FG to save N24.7bn monthly - NITDA boss

- The federal government, through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has revealed how much it saves monthly through Information technology (IT)

- The director general of NITDA, Isa Ali Pantami, said that the federal government saves N24.7 billion each month through IT

- Pantami revealed that the federal government, through the e-Governance, has blocked a lot of leakages

Isa Ali Pantami, the director general of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has said that the federal government secures not less than N24.7 billion each month through the deployment of Information technology (IT).

Pantami revealed that the federal government, through the e-Governance, a lot of leakages have been blocked through the used of IT, adding that this has integrated the nation's revenue, Daily Trust reports.

He said: “With the implementation of Treasury Single Account (TSA) and Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and BVN, the Federal Government of Nigeria has been saving a minimum of N24.7 billion monthly, just because of the implementation of this IT software.

“In addition, look at the confidence of our citizens today it has improved significantly in Nigeria, because many people today have trust in online banking.”

The NITDA boss further said that the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) had automated its system to enable firms get registered online without going to the organisation’s office.

He said that as one of its gains, IT had enabled Nigerians to obtain International Passports, and book appointment for biometrics online.

He stated: “Furthermore, IT had enabled Nigerians to run online courses without physically attending institutions.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the federal government on Wednesday, March 27, approved N1.3 billion contracts to strengthen and reposition its media outfits for effective information dissemination.

The media organisations to benefit from the projects include the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigeria Television Authority and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
