INEC promises timely deployment of personnel, materials for supplementary poll in Plateau

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has promised to ensure timely deployment of personnel and materials during Saturday’s supplementary election in Plateau.

Osaretin Imahiyereobo, INEC Head, Voter Education and Publicity in the state gave the assurance in statement issued on Wednesday, March 20, in Jos.

According to him, the commission is determined to conduct free, fair and credible poll, hence it has put in place necessary mechanism to ensure that the process is smooth.

He also assured political parties that INEC would be transparent, honest and fair during the poll.

Imahiyereobo also appealed to residents of the state, particularly those in areas where poll would hold to conduct themselves in peaceful manner to ensure a hitch free exercise.

“While calling on voters to peacefully participate in the supplementary election, we want to assure residents of the state that measures have been put in place to ensure timely deployment of personnel and materials for early commencement of the exercise.

“We wish to assure all, especially political parties of our commitment to fairness, transparency, honesty and a demonstration of high sense of responsibility during the election.

“INEC in conjunction with the security agencies is determined to provide an enabling environment that will engender free, fair, credible and peaceful election,” he assured.

Imahiyereobo also harped on the use of smart card readers in the poll, adding that election would the cancelled in polling units where card readers are not used.

He explained that non sensitive materials have been distributed to areas where election would hold, adding that sensitive materials would be deployed by Thursday, March 21.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that supplementary election for governorship poll would hold in 40 polling units in 19 Wards in nine Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

Similarly, supplementary poll for the Langtang south constituency of the state would also hold same day.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar, on Wednesday, March 20, said the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced the airlift of election materials for supplementary elections holding on Saturday, March 23.

Abubakar made this known during the quarterly CAS conference with Branch Chiefs and Air Officers Commanding (AOC) at the NAF headquarters in Abuja.

He noted the role of the Air Force in helping the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in solving its logistics challenges while commending the professionalism displayed by NAF personnel during the recently concluded general elections.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
