Heartbreak as top boxer announces retirement at the age of 30

- Conor McGregor, former UFC champion announces retirement after a career that lasted a little over one decade

- The Irish fighter won Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight and lightweight titles during his career

- McGregor lost his only boxing fight against Floyd Mayweather in August 2017

Mixed martial arts fighter and former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor has announced his retirement from the sport.

The 30-year-old Irish fighter made the announcement on social media in the early hours of Tuesday.

McGregor last featured in the combat sport in October 2018, when he was beaten by Khabib Nurmagomedov as the Russian won the lightweight contest in the fourth round.

"I've decided to retire from the sport formally known as 'Mixed Martial Art' today," he said.

"I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition. I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement. Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!. he concluded

'Mystic Mac', as he is fondly referred to in the rings estabished himself as one of the leading fighters in the sport.

McGregor fought just one boxing fight against Floyd Mayweather but lost out on knockout to the American boxer and earned estimated $30m (£23m) in the process.

He fought 25 professional UFC fighters and won 21 - ending 18 of those bouts in knockouts and lost four in the process.

In 2018, a court instructed McGregor to have anger management training and perform five days of community service for criminal charges being dropped after he had attacked a bus containing rival UFC fighters.

Earlier this month McGregor was arrested in Miami for allegedly smashing a fan's phone as they tried to take pictures of him.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Conor McGregor, Ultimate Fighting Championship star, has been arrested by Miami police after smashing a fan's phone.

The 30-year-old and the supporter were spotted exiting Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel on Monday during which the fan tried taking pictures with the fighter, according to a police report.

He was was said to have slapped the phone off the fan's hand and then angrily stepped on the phone several times.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
