- Dr Gabriel Suswam has urged defeated Senator George Akume to learn to be a good loser in the interest of peace

- Suswam, a former governor of the state, condemned Akume for leading thugs to destroy PDP's billboards in Makurdi

- Suswam further urged defeated Senator Akume to serve as a good example to the younger generation

Senator-elect for Benue North East senatorial district, Dr Gabriel Suswam has urged defeated Senator George Akume to learn to be a good loser in the interest of peace.

Dr Suswam a former governor of the state, stated this in a chat with journalists in Abuja over the weekend.

He condemned Senator Akume's action of mobilizing and leading thugs in the name of celebrating President Muhammadu Buhari's victory to destroy Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign billboards and the looting of property that followed the rampage in Makurdi, the state capital.

He described the act as "madness of the highest degree" which he said was capable of overheating the polity as well as creating an uncontrollable spate of violence in the state which has experienced series of attacks in recent times.

Dr Suswam urged defeated Senator Akume to serve as a good example to the younger generation and advised other winners of last week's elections to be magnanimous in victory.

He equally appealed to losers not to take the law into their hands but rather seek redress in court if they feel aggrieved.

The senator-elect, pointed out that in 2015 he contested for the Senate of Benue North East as an incumbent governor and he lost but did not mobilize hoodlums to molest his opponents and other members of the society.

Dr Suswam also used the opportunity to speak in glowing terms about the late Senator JKN Waku whom he described as a political icon.
