The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Wednesday, February 27, declared the president as winner of the election.
INEC chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, while announcing the election results, said Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 15,191,847 votes to defeat his main challenger, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 11,255,978 votes.
Lawal said the election was not just a referendum on Buhari’s leadership but also a referendum on consequences of values and antecedents.
“This 2019 presidential election proved to us the first of its kind in the history of Nigeria or rather Africa, whereby all the so-called elites across board could not lay claim to be instrumental to the success of the outcome.
“Even most of the so-called leaders and myth influencers against the re-election of the Buhari/ Osinbajo ticket could not deliver in their polling units, let alone their local governments.
“It was indeed a battle between the key corrupt establishment and the last man standing in his generation against corruption and extreme capitalism in the land, Nigeria.
“We commend the leadership of the party, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, for leading the party to victory once again. Special thanks to the co-chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council, Chief Bola Tinubu and all the members of the council, both at home and in the Diaspora.
“To all the candidates that participated on the platforms of several political parties, especially the main opposition, PDP, at the just- concluded election, lets us think Nigeria first and join hands with Buhari to move Nigeria forward,’’ he added.
Ayoola urged those with grievances or who are dissatisfied with the outcome of the election to seek possible redress in the courts of law.
The chairman advised them not to take any action that could undermine unity and peace in the country.
He commended INEC for delivering an election adjudged to be largely peaceful, urging the commission to use the March 9 elections to improve on the process.
“We call on the federal government, the security agencies and citizens to be vigilant about any group or individual that might want to take law into their hands over election outcomes.
“Timely decisive action must be taken against such individuals or groups in order to keep the sanity of our system.
“To the Nigerian masses to which the victory belongs, complete what you already started by ensuring that we conduct ourselves in a peaceful manner in the forthcoming governorship and state assembly elections on March 9,’’ the statement added.

Recall that Legit.ng earlier reported that Prince Tony Momoh, a chieftain in the ruling APC and former minister of information, said that Buhari’s victory in the just concluded general election was more celebrated when compared to his 2015 election win.
Momoh also said whoever believes the victory of the president’s re-election bid was not as praised as his first emergence must have a problem with their memory.
