- INEC has suspended supplementary election in Brass constituency 1, in Bayelsa state

- The state REC, Pastor Monday Tom, said the commission took the decision in compliance with court order

- Tom, however, said that election would still hold two constituencies of Ogbia II and Southern Ijaw IV, where elections were declared inconclusive on Saturday, March 9

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the supplementary election into the Brass constituency 1 in Bayelsa state, due to an interlocutory order of the Federal High Court, sitting in Yenagoa stopping the exercise.

Daily Trust reports that the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Pastor Monday Udoh Tom, in a statement in Yenagoa on Saturday, March 23, said that INEC as law abiding agency has to comply with the Court order.

Legit.ng gathered that Tom, however, stated that the supplementary elections would still hold in the other two constituencies of Ogbia II and Southern Ijaw IV, where elections were declared inconclusive on March 9.

He said: “The conduct of supplementary election in Brass constituency I, ward 6, polling units 11-16 has been put on hold by an interlocutory order of the Federal High Court, Yenagoa in suit No. FHC/YNG/C5/41/2019 and dated 22 March, 2019.

“As a law abiding agency, the commission will inform stakeholders as soon as the Court order is dispensed with Brass constituency I.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Bayelsa state deputy governor, John Jonah, urged Nigerians not to blame the Army for its involvement in the 2019 general elections.

Jonah said this on Saturday, March 16 at Elebele in Yenogoa, the Bayelsa state capital, during the inauguration of some projects in the 16 Brigade Barracks otherwise known as “Tukur Buratai Camp” located in the community.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
