Amid allegations from APC, 44 political parties passes vote of confidence on INEC REC

- Mike Igini, the REC of INEC in Akwa Ibom state, receives vote of confidence from 44 political parties

- The parties, through the Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC), claims those those protesting against Igini could not lure him during the elections

- The political parties says Igini has constantly maintained his integrity in his service to the nation as INEC REC

Forty-four political parties have passed a vote of confidence on Mike Igini, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Akwa Ibom, amid allegations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that he soiled his hands during the 2019 elections.

Under the umbrella of Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC), the political parties said Igini remains a man of integrity and has continued to maintain this in his service to the nation in the face of provocations.

Channels Television reports that IPAC’s legal adviser, Mfon Peters, in a statement on behalf of the political parties, said there had been many attempts to induce Igini against the will of the people during the presidential and senatorial elections, which he rejected.

“We have noticed that after the presidential and National Assembly elections in our State, the ‘Igini Must Go’ assemblage which had receded has been rekindled. The reason is not far- fetched.

“We applaud the unbending noble character of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mike Igini, in the test offered by the scenario that played out at Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District elections,” the political parties said.

The parties believe that Igini is being confronted by some politicians because of his integrity.

“Despite monetary inducement, connection, influence and power play, Igini was uncompromising.

“He insisted that only the valid votes cast at the polling units and collated by the designated officers will count.

“This did not go down well with some political gladiators who hitherto thought that what money cannot do, more money can do,” IPAC added.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the APC on Monday, February 25, said it had rejected the presidential election result in Akwa Ibom declared by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the collation centre in Uyo.

In the result announced by collation officers for the election, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, won in 28 local government area out of 31 in the state.

It also reported that a pressure group, Akwa Ibom Liberation Movement (AILM), condemned the call by the APC demanding the redeployment of Mike Igini.
