Alao-Akala reportedly returns to APC after meeting Tinubu

The former governor of Oyo state, Adebayo Alao-Akala, has reportedly returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after meeting with ex-governor of Lagos and national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu.

The former governor dumped APC in October 2018 after the party's governorship primaries in Oyo state, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Alao-Akala's wife, Oluwakemi Alao-Akala, his son, Olamiju, and the director general of his campaign, Wale Ohu, accompanied him to Tinubu's residence on Thursday, February 28.

He said: “It is true. Both of us have been meeting and we will continue to meet. I will call you in 24 hours to let you know the state of things."

A source close to Tinubu said: “Tinubu and Alao-Akala met on Tuesday. Tinubu asked Alao-Akala, who has many supporters in Ogbomoso, to collapse his structure into that of Adelabu. We know that if Alao-Akala was in our camp, there was no way Atiku would have had such a good outing in Oyo State, especially Ogbomoso.

“The PDP governorship candidate, Seyi Makinde, is popular and he is also an Ibadan guy like Adelabu, which means that they will both split the votes in Ibadan. The APC will need to forge an alliance with elements in Ogbomoso to get an advantage.

“We knew that the people were not too happy with the governor as far back as June 2018 when the PDP candidate, Adebo Ogundoyin, won Ibarapa-East Constituency by-election which was held to fill the vacant position created by the death of former speaker of the House of Assembly, Michael Adeyemo. Alao-Akala had made some demands but Ajimobi did not play the politics right. Also, Ajimobi’s decision to convert some chiefs to full monarchs was unpopular among many people.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that The presidential election held on Saturday, February 23 in which President Muhammadu Buhari emerged winner was described as the freest in the country since 1951.

Esogban of Benin Kingdom, Chief David Edebiri on Thursday, February 28, said the election is the freest in the country since 1951 when he started voting as an adult.

The Benin chief called on President Buhari to be magnanimous in victory. He also advised the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, to congratulate the president.

He said: “I voted in the election. I started voting since December 1951 and that is exactly 68 years ago. Since I started voting in 1951, till date, I have not failed to vote in any election including that which was conducted by Babangida in June 12 1993, there was none of these elections that has been as free as the one we held on the 23rd.

"I say that from my own personal knowledge, this is not history that you read from book, this is something in which I participated, there was none of these elections that was as transparent, free and fair as the one we have just held so to that extent, Muhammadu Buhari should be praised."
