Somber mood at Old Trafford as Man United mark 61st anniversary of Munich Air Disaster

- Manchester United remember their players and staff who lost their lives in the Munich Air Disaster today

- The Red Devils stars were returning from their continental assignment against Red Star Belgrade when the incident occurred

Premier League giants Manchester United are marking the 61st anniversary of Munich air disaster today.

The Red Devils lost eight players and three other staff members while returning from their European Cup clash against Red Star Belgrade.

A day which has been described as the 'saddest' in the history of one of the best clubs in both domestic and continental football.

According to Manchester United's official website, fans will gather around the Munich memorial plaque at Old Trafford on Wednesday, February 6, to pay tribute.

This also made the English topflight side changed their social media profile pictures to a clock in remembrance of their fallen comrades.

Speaking to MUTV, interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recalled how his father — then 14-years-old — told him how the whole world was shook to hear the news that reached him while back home in Norway.

"My dad was 14 when it happened and he tells me about how he got to know about it back home in Norway, watching it on the black and white TV screens," he said.

"It's a sad day in our history, but it's a day that we'll always remember. I think it's so important because it's such a big part of our history. That day will be in our history forever," the caretaker manager said.

Furthermore he encouraged new supporters to learn about the history of the club.

"Its quite a few years ago now and the new supporters coming through must learn about it and the history of it," Solskjaer said.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Marcus Rashford fired Manchester United to victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium over the weekend.

The striker, who is wanted by both Real Madrid and Barcelona superbly converted a precise pass from Paul Pogba to ensure the Red Devils remain unbeaten since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in December.

They have hoever moved to fifth on the EPL table as they travel to Craven Cottage to face off with struggling Fulham this weekend.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
