Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are on the verge of not playing in the Champions League quarter finals for the first since the 2004-05 season.
Ronaldo's Juventus were handed a 2-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their round of 16 clash at the Wanda Metropolitano.
On the other hand, Lyon competitively held Barcelona to a 0-0 scoreline in the first leg and will be going into the second leg in a winners take all at Nou Camp.

The last time Ronaldo crashed out in a Champions League last 16 campaign was with Manchester United, losing to AC Milan in 2005.
Messi's Barca were also eliminated by a Chelsea side led by Jose Mourinho who also won the Premier League title in the 2004-05 season.

La Blaugrana crashed out on a 5-4 aggregate while the Red Devils lost 2-0 over both legs which saw Ronaldo and Messi at the losing ends.
Though both stars still have one chance to ensure history is not repeated though as Juventus welcome Atletico to Turin on March 12, while Barcelona host Lyon at the Nou Camp on March 13.
