Resilient police make powerful threat ahead of February 16 election

- The Nigeria Police Force has given a powerful warning to politicians ahead of the February 16 presidential election

- In a statement by the deputy inspector-general of police, Usman Tilli, politicians were urged to desist from vote buying during election

- Tilli, however, warned that politicians caught indulging in the illegal act would be made to face the wrath of law

The police has warned politicians to desist from vote buying on election day or face the wrath of the law.

The deputy inspector-general of police in charge of administration, force headquarters, Abuja, Usman Tilli, gave the warning in Gombe on Tuesday, February 12, when he was addressing stakeholders, NAN reports.

Legit.ng gathers he warned that vote buying on election day was an offence and the police would not leave any stone unturned to arrest anyone engaging in the act.

He said: “You are free to buy your votes before the election but on the election day it is not permitted because it is an offence."

The DIG, who is also in charge of the election in northeast, said the police would give a level playing ground to all political parties.

He added: “We want a situation whereby there would be no fighting and snatching of boxes. Nigeria is the giant of Africa. International observers are coming to write for or against us so, we should not destroy ourselves."

He, further, urged politicians to be matured and play the game according to the rule.

The police boss said: “You have chances of taking the matter to court after the election. Tribunal is awaiting for any complaint. Your cooperation is needed to ensure that election is conducted without rancour."

Earlier, the commissioner of police in the state, Mukwashi Bello, said the police had put a lot in place from the force headquarters down to the states to ensure hitch-free elections. He also assured of peaceful conduct of elections and the safety of lives and properties of the citizens of the state.

Malam Iro Dan-Musa, director, Department of Security Services (DSS), Gombe state, said the security agencies in the state were working in synergy to ensure relative peace in the state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Anthony Ogbizi has assured the people of Enugu state that the police personnel deployed in the state for Saturday, February 16 poll, would demonstrate absolute professionalism and neutrality in the discharge of their duties.

Ogbizi, who is in-charge of the force criminal investigation and intelligence department and the southeast for the elections, gave the assurance on Tuesday, February 12, in Enugu during a stakeholders’ meeting on election security.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
