PDP suffers defeat as Okorocha reportedly wins Imo west senatorial seat

- Rochas Okorocha of the APC scores a total of 97,762 votes to defeat the PDP candidate, Jones Onyereri, in the Imo west senatorial election

- Okorocha’s old rival, Osita Izunaso, who ran on the platform of APGA is third behind Onyeriri in the results so far

- Izunaso was a former senator of Imo west in the APC with Okorocha before he defected to APGA due to crisis in the Imo APC

The outgoing governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha has reportedly won the senatorial seat for west senatorial zone.

The Nation newspaper reports that the INEC collation officer, Professor Ibeawuchi Francis, announced Okorocha as winner after he scored a total of 97,762 votes to defeat his closest rival, Jones Onyereri of the PDP who scored 63.117 votes.

The returning officer, who is a professor in Federal University Technology Owerri (FUTO), was said to have commenced collation of results since Sunday, February 24.

Osita Izunaso, Okoroach'a rival who contested under All Progressives Grand Alliances (APGA) reportedly coming third in the race behind Onyeriri, Premium Times reports.

Izunaso was a former senator of Imo west in the APC with Okorocha before he defected to the APGA due to crisis in the Imo APC.

Meanwhile, there was mild drama at the Imo west collation centre after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)'s returning officer in the centre stopped collating results and announced that he has been directed to return to Owerri immediately.

Premium Times reports that the returning officer, Professor Ibeabuchi, said due to the urgent call from Owerri, the state capital, he will postpone announcing the rest of the result till Monday morning, February 25.

But Governor Rochas Okorocha was said to have stormed the collation centre in the early hours of Monday, Fenruary 25. after Ibeabuchi's announcement.
