Over 200 PDP chieftains in Plateau defect to APC

- Massive defection has hit the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau state ahead of the 2019 general elections

- Over 200 chieftains of the party were said to have defected to the All Progressives Congress

- The chieftains declared their support for Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state

Over 200 chieftains of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau state have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

According to the chieftains, they defected from the party after realising that the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Jeremiah Useni, would seek re-election if he wins the March 2, 2019 election, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Useni was said to have been favoured during the PDP primaries due to his age and the agreement that he would not seek re-election.

Spokesman for the defectors, Garba Abubakar, said: “But based on the happenings within the party, there is a plan by PDP gubernatorial candidate to renege on the agreement, hence the collective decision of some members to jettison PDP for APC whose candidate is going for second term.

“Senator Useni who had invited us to work with him in his governorship campaign has declined to restrict himself to the one term in office if he eventually wins in the forth-coming elections. This did not go down well with some of the supporters and party members from Mangu LGA.

“The Central zone is next in line to benefit from the zoning agreement in the state and Mangu LGA being an interested party will not concede her chance by supporting Useni as he would further delay their chance of contesting the governorship by another four years.

“We would rather pitch camp with the incumbent Governor Simon Lalong of APC who is seeking a second term and who is by the constitution restricted to just two terms from which he had already served one.”

The allegation, has however been denied by the chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of PDP Campaign Council, Abraham Yiljap.

He said: “It is a mischief to say Senator Useni is scheming for eight years. “The gubernatorial candidate has repeatedly stated that he was going in for just four years after which he will hand over to young ones. APC just wants to deceive people of Mangu. I want to say that he is going in for just four years.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that about 8,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) reportedly dumped the party to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto state.

The defectors were received by the campaign train of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal in Wamakko local government on Wednesday, February 6.

The governor assured the people that he would engage in more projects that would bring development.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
