- Olusegun Agbaje said there was no incident of burning of INEC office in Osun state
- Agbaje, state REC of the commission, said there was only a conflict between one of the ad hoc staff of INEC and some youths
- According to him, the minor incident didn’t affect the conduct and the outcome of the election in the area
Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, in Osun state, Olusegun Agbaje has condemned reports which claimed that the office of electoral body in Oriade local government area was burnt.
Reports by Daily Trust claimed that Agbaje denied that the purported burning of INEC office in Oriade LGA was not true.
He disclosed that there was an incident between one of the ad hoc staff of INEC and some youths in the area and that the incident was not in connection with the election in any way.

According to him, “Some youths in the area were angry that one of our ad hoc staff called them ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’ boys and they attempted to attack that ad hoc staff for calling them derogatory name.
“The ad-hoc staff ran into the INEC office at Oriade local government. The angry youths chased the ad hoc staff into the office bu the ad hoc staff eventually escaped from them.
“Because they could not get the ad hoc staff, the youths damaged the generating set and some items used for the election which the ad hod staff brought back from the collation center.

“That minor incident didn’t affect the conduct and the outcome of the election in the area. So, there was no incident of burning of INEC office in Osun.”
Folashade Odoro, the state police public relations officer, and others have also faulted the reports of the burning incident.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the voting process at the Akarabata ward 1 Units 1-12 in Osun state turned violent as a woman, whose identity is yet unknown, was stabbed in a fight by another female.
The ugly development which took place at the Oranmiyan tower complex in the said area started after an argument over who was and who was not on the queue for the voting.
Adeleye Oyebade, in charge of Zone 11 in Osun, commenting on the incident, said that the attacker has been arrested by police officers, adding that the situation has been contained already.
