The Spaniard believes City’s chase for the Quadruple is beginning to have its effect on the squad.

"Being in four competitions is so demanding, so tough, we don't know where we're going to arrive.

"Fernandinho and Laporte will be out for some weeks.

"Winning this game is good for the enthusiasm for the next games.

"But we are going to suffer for the next competitions, especially in the Champions League and Premier League.

"But the win is important for the mood - 'OK, guys, we have two titles already in our basket, the Community Shield and today',” Guardiola said.

The pair of John Stones and Benjamin Mendy were already out of City squad ahead of a busy match schedule in March

At the last count, Fernandinho deputized as a centre-back against Schalke in midweek, while Laporte played at left-back after Mendy and Fabian Delph were ruled out due to injury.

Interestingly, Manchester City are expected to play a total of six matches March, starting with a home fixture against West Ham on Wednesday.

But it will be the first time Man City will be playing without their £57m defender Laporte this campaign.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Manchester City have been crowned the 2019 EFL Cup champions after beating Chelsea on penalties at the Wembley Stadium.

The Citizens beat Chelsea 4-3 on penalties after both teams failed to find the back of the net in open play after 120 minutes.

Sunday evening's victory means that the Etihad Stadium outfit have won six EFL Cup titles since the start of the competition - after successfully defending the title they won last term.
