Following the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to shift the February 16 elections, the Sokoto chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party have respectively called for the resignation of the commission's chairman, Mahmood Yakubu.

Reacting to the postponement, the chairman of PDP's presidential and gubernatorial campaign council in Sokoto state, Bello Suleiman, questioned the commission's justification for its action, Tribune reports.

He condemned the decision of INEC and questioned Yakubu's sincerity towards the conduct of credible election for the country.

He said: ''Imagine someone telling everyone twenty-four hours before the election that everything is in order, only to come back twelve hours later to announce the election has been postponed.

''This is unbecoming and not just an embarrassment to the country but even before the International communities.”

In the same vein, the Sokoto state campaign director general of APC, Yusuf Suleiman, has also expressed worries over the shocking development.

The former transportation minister, addressing newsmen, said the party was disappointed by the INEC's lack of preparation, adding that the INEC boss should take responsibility and resign.

Suleiman, however, said he would prefer to have the election postponed rather than having a shoddy and inconclusive polls for the country.

He said: ''Like every other Nigerian, I am disappointed, this is so sudden, we were terribly disappointed. Professor Mahmood Yakubu should take responsibility and resign.

''My only concern is that President Muhammadu Buhari would have been returned this night for his second term and we would have recorded majority wins in the National Assembly elections.”
