He wrote on his Facebook page: “Unfortunately, this fake news has for the past two days being circulated by other mischievous elements for reasons best known to them.
“I voluntarily retired from the Nigerian Army on 7th February 2019 having served for over three decades and commenced my terminal leave the following day.
“I remain eternally grateful to the Nigerian Army and the nation for such a wonderful opportunity and fulfilling career in the Nigerian Army. Therefore, I implore all well meaning people to disregard such fake news.
“I also want to seize this opportunity to thank all those that showed concern on the unfortunate fake news through phone calls, text and WhatsApp messages.”
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, to refrain himself from actions that will suggest the military is not apolitical ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The PDP was reacting to Buratai's instructions mandating Nigerian Army personnel to carryout President Muhammadu Buhari's order to shoot ballot box snatchers.
The party in a statement sent to Legit.ng by its spokesman, Kola Ologbodiyan on Wednesday, February 20, said President Buhari's order for the army to participate in the electoral process is an aberration of Nigerian laws and a recipe for crisis.
