Hours to election, another prominent party dumps Buhari, endorses Atiku as presidential candidate

- The Alliance for Democracy has pledged its support for Atiku Abubakar less than 24 hours to election

- AD made this announcement in a communique released after its meeting in Abuja on Thursday

- The party said its endorsement of Atiku was due to its vast experience in governance and his restructuring promise

Barely 24 hours to the February 16 presidential and general election, the candidacy of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), got a bigger boost as Alliance for Democracy (AD) declared its support for him.

Tribune reports that the decision for the adoption was taken after the party's meeting in Abuja, which was followed by a communique released to the press on Thursday, February 14.

Legit.ng gathers that the communique announcing the synergy with PDP was signed by the southwest zonal chairman of the party, Otunba Tayo Onayemi.

The party said its endorsement of Atiku was expedient because of its belief that the PDP candidate has numerous experiences in governance, having served as a former vice president for eight years.

The communique read: ''While urging our numerous members and followers to still go ahead and vote for AD candidates for other elective offices like National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly, the NEC, therefore, wishes to advise President Muhammadu Buhari, who had also tried his possible best to make Nigeria great, to take a well deserved rest and allow his younger and energetic brother, Atiku, to continue from where he would stop.”

The party also added that it was motivated by the restructuring promise of the PDP presidential candidate, hence its support.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the candidacy of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had been endorsed by the Coalition of Christian Groups for Good Governance in Nigeria and Diaspora (COCGGDN), ahead of the Saturday, February 16 presidential election.

The development was made public by the group's president, Engr Daniel Kadzai on Thursday, February 14, while reading the coalition's communique at the end of its meeting in Abuja, the nation's capital.
