She therefore begged the president to make sure her daughter is released before the said date so does not remain with her insurgent group for a year.

Mrs Sharibu was emotional while she addressed journalists in Abuja on Saturday, February 9, as she made her appeal to the president in Hausa, while reliving how Buhari promised her of Leah Sharbu’s release.

She said: “I have come before you and the federal government to plead that you don’t forget Leah.

“The president spoke with me on phone and encouraged me not to worry, and with the assurance that my daughter will be released.

“Leah is just 15 years old. The beauty of a promise is in its fulfilment. Please save my daughter. I plead with you to help me.”
