Elections 2019: Tension as Abuja voters allege harassment, intimidation, obstruction of movement by soldiers

- Voters in Abuja have accused soldiers and other security personnel of preventing movement in all suburbs of the city on Saturday, February 23

- The voters alleged that that the soldiers had harassed and intimidated them

- Some soldiers were allegedly seen beating people just to make way for their commander

Just before 6am on Saturday, February 23, voters in Abuja, the nation's capital, were said to be complaining that soldiers and other security personnel were allegedly preventing movement in all suburbs of the city.

According to Independent, the voters said they had experiencing difficulty going to their polling units, due to the alleged development.

Legit.ng gathers that the voters complained that they were harassed and intimidated by the soldiers.

The report claimed that around Polling Unit 005, near the Mosque at Karu, soldiers were seen beating people in a bid to make way for their commander.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Rivers state governor, Nyesom wike, accused the general officer commanding, 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Jamil Sarham, of sending soldiers to assassinate him on Thursday, February 21.

Governor Wike, in a statement signed by his spokesman, Simeon Nwakaudu, reportedly announced this attempted assassination after a meeting with officials of the British High Commission at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday, February 22.

The governor said he was able to escape the Thursday night assassination attempt because his security men noticed the soldiers trailing his convoy.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
