Elections 2019: INEC hires 1,700 buses, 10 trailers for polls in Enugu

- INEC says it will hire 1,700 buses for election duty in Enugu state for the presidential and National Assembly elections

- The commission will also be hiring more than ten trailers to move heavy materials and equipment before, during and after the polls

- Enugu state currently has 1,942,776 registered voters, 4,146 voting locations and 260 political wards

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will be hiring a total of 1,700 buses for election duty in Enugu state for the Saturday, February 16 presidential and National Assembly elections.

Dr Emeka Ononamadu, resident electoral commissioner, Enugu state, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday, February 14.

Legit.ng gathers that Ononamadu said that the 1,700 buses would be complementing the over 22 internal vehicles of the commission.

He noted that the commission would also be hiring more than ten trailers to move heavy materials and equipment before, during and after the polls.

“All the vehicles we are hiring will be through the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and National Association of Transports Owners (NATO).

“The commission in the state has concluded arrangements with these two big transport unions to ensure hitch-free movement of staff, ad-hoc staff and electoral materials,’’ the REC said.

Enugu state currently has 1,942,776 registered voters and 4,146 voting locations. The state also has 260 political wards within.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission clarified inquiries on which finger to vote with in the 2019 general elections.

In a post on its social media pages, INEC noted that the ballot paper is not finger sensitive.

“A voter can use any finger to vote but should ensure that his or her mark is clear and placed inside the box of the political party of his or her choice and does not stray into another box,” the commission tweeted.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
