Election 2019: APC wins Lagos West senatorial seat

- Senator Solomon Adeola has been re-elected to the Nigerian Senate for the second time

- The All Progressives Congress (APC) senator is returning to the upper house for the second time

- He defeated his closest rival, Gbadebo Rhodes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had 243,516 votes

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, February 25, declared the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi) winner of the Lagos West senatorial district.

The INEC returning officer, Professor Olumide Adenuga of the University of Lagos, said Adeola polled a total of 323,817 votes to emerge winner.

He defeated his closest rival Gbadebo Rhodes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had 243,516 votes.

“I Professor Olumide Adenuga hereby certify as the returning officer, Lagos West senatorial district with the election held on February 23, 2019, that the election was conducted among 10 candidates.

“I declare that Solomon Olamilekan Adeola of the APC has satisfied the requirements of law and scoring the highest number of votes, hereby declared the winner and returned elected having polled 323,817 votes,” he said.

Speaking on his victory, Senator Adeola said that the victory would spur him to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.

“We will do more for the people in terms of infrastructure and other things that will ease the problems of the people such as welfare programmes,” he said.

Meanwhile, as the presidential election collation goes on, the special adviser to the president on political matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, has expressed optimism that the APC will coast home to victory.

Ojudu, in an interview with journalists, said although there were pockets of violence in some parts of the country, APC has largely done well in the contest and President Muhammadu Buhari is poised for victory.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
