Chelsea star opens up on what he told Kepa during substitution row with Sarri

- David Luiz has come out to condemn Kepa's move to disrespect Sarri's tactical decision

- Kepa Arrizabalaga refused to be substituted in Chelsea's EFL Cup defeat to Man City

- The Blues' keeper was to be replaced by Willy Caballero but he refused to be substituted

David Luiz has given an account of what he told teammate Kepa Arrizabalaga when he refused to be substituted deep in extra time.

Maurizio Sarri and Arrizabalaga were the centre of attention in the substitution row as Manchester City beat the Blues' 4-3 on penalties to lift the EFL Cup at Wembley.

The two sides had settled for a barren draw in regular time, forcing the match into extra time.

The extra minutes further failed to produce any goal, with the managers forced to rethink of tactical decisions with the tie destined for penalties.

On his part, Sarri moved to substitute Kepa with Willy Caballero in the dying seconds of the extra time.

However, the decision did not go down well with the Spanish goalkeeper as he refused to be substituted despite going down with a cramp.

Luiz walked up to Kepa in an attempt to convince the goalkeeper to give in to the substitution, but Kepa stood his ground.

"I told him to respect the decision of the coach," the Brazilian revealed moments after the encounter.

Kepa, who is the club's record signing defied the order, as Sarri threw a water bottle to the floor in anger before making for the tunnel.

Chelsea went on to lose the match in the shootout with Kepa making a single save.

Both Luiz and Jorginho missed from the spot as clinical finishes from Man City players gifted the Citizens their first trophy of the season.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported Jose Mourinho has stressed he never had come to across the kind of behaviour Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga exhibited in the Carabao Cup final.

The Spain international refused to be substituted late in extra time for Willy Caballero even when Maurizio Sarri came to the sidelines to order him off.
