Atiku's endorsement: Ohanaeze faction apologises to Buhari, assures him of victory in southeast

- A faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has tendered apology to President Muhammadu Buhari over the endorsement of Atiku Abubakar by the apex Igbo socio-cultural body

- The apology was tendered by the secretary general of Ohanaeze and leader of the factional group, Uche Okwukwu

- Okwukwu told the president that he would be victorious in the southwest in the February 16 presidential election

Following the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, by Ohanaezi Ndigbo, a faction of the group led by the secretary general of the apex Igbo socio-cultural body, Uche Okwukwu, has apologised to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The factional group on Friday, February 8, told President Muhammadu Buhari not worry about the southeast in the February 16 election, adding that he would be victorious in the zone during the presidential election, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng recalls that Atiku was endorsed by the Chief John Nnia Nwodo-led Ohaneze Ndigbo on the day President Buhari visited Anambra and Enugu states for his campaign rally.

Okwukwu, who visited President Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja, said: “President Muhammadu Buhari, we are highly pleased meeting with you today.

"As you can see with us are different Igbo groups, and based on that we want to apologise to you, on behalf of Ndigbo for the utterances and speeches credited to Chief John Nnia Nwodo, the suspended President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“Those utterances were his personal views and opinion and do not reflect the views and opinion of Ndigbo in Nigeria, today.

“Mr President, just for your information, Ohanaeze Ndigbo have set up a 9-man panel to probe and investigate the suspended President General for his gross misconduct and violations of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution 2015, and make necessary recommendations."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and his running mate, Peter Obi, were endorsed for the February 16 presidential election by the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

The endorsement which was signed by the organisation's president general, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, was contained in a communiqué issued on Thursday, January 24.

The communiqué was issued at the end of the Ime Obi Ohaneze Ndigbo meeting which took place at the Nike Lake Hotel in Enugu, to further deliberate on the future of Ndigbo.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year. This did not however, materialize. According to the release, the project will have a four to five-year execution time after the signing of the FID.
