Anambra monarch suspended after insisting on breaking kolanuts during governor’s visit

- Igwe Ben Ameke, the traditional ruler of Umueri, Anambra East LGA, Anambra state, has been suspended after insisting on breaking kolanuts during a visit by Governor Willie Obiano

- Ameke had grabbed the kola nuts from the governor’s senior special assistant on the ground that he was son of the soil and therefore the right person to break the nuts

- An observer from Umueri will subsequently be nominated to attend meetings of royal fathers in the area while the suspension lasts

The traditional ruler of Umueri, Anambra East local government area, Igwe Ben Ameke, has been suspended, following a heated argument among traditional rulers in the local government area over who should break kolanut during a visit by Governor Willie Obiano to the area.

The monarch was suspended from the traditional council for being the mastermind of the fracas for one year because of what other royal fathers described as his fragrant violation of customs and tradition of Igbo land as it concerns the rules surrounding the breaking of kola, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathers that during Obiano’s visit, Igwe Ben Ameke had grabbed the kolanuts from the governor’s senior special assistant, Anthony Oli, on the grounds that he was a son of the soil and therefore the right person to break the nuts.

The suspension was announced in a letter issued by the chairman of the Anambra East Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alex Edozieuno.

The letter directed that “an observer from Umueri should be nominated to be attending a meeting of royal fathers in the area while the suspension lasts.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Ekiti government issued a two-month ultimatum to Oba Gabriel Olajide to reconcile with some of his aggrieved subjects.

The allegations leveled against the monarch by the community’s chiefs and indigenes included high handedness, incessant harassment of subjects using the police and non-performance of traditional rites, claiming to be a 'born-again Christian'.

He was also accused of inflicting injuries on his subjects during a traditional ceremony.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
