2019: What will happen to southwest if Buhari wins - Shehu Sani

- Senator Sani predicted that presidency will be given to the southwest in 2023 if President Buhari wins the forthcoming election

- Sani added that the southwest will restructure Nigeria if it gets the presidency

- The Kaduna Central senator said Buhari-led administration cannot implement restructuring because the president is not in tune with

Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central at the upper legislative chamber, has predicted that the presidency will be given to the southwest geopolitical zone if President Muhammadu Buhari wins the February 16 presidential election.

In an interview with Premium Times, Senator Sani talked about the trending issues surrounding the Nigerian political sector, particularly regarding the 2019 elections.

Sani said: “If Buhari wins the 2019 election, the power would certainly go back to the southwest. What has been put in place by northern leaders and the government? What preparation has been made for what will happen after 2023?”

The Kaduna Central senator also stated his assurance that the southwest will move for the restructuring of Nigeria if it gets the presidency in 2023

“There is no doubt that if power moves to the southwest part of Nigeria, the first and the major agenda for Nigeria will be restructuring. Have the nineteen other states in Nigeria prepared themselves for that restructuring? None,” he said.

He added that the current administration cannot implement restructuring because “President Muhammadu Buhari is not for restructuring”.

His words: "The government of today mentioned restructuring as part of its campaign promises I 2015 but they deceived the people and never made it a major issues until when election came closer and then in August, a funny committee was set up to be chaired by the governor of Kaduna State.

“We shouldn’t deceive ourselves. The body language, the statement and the thinking of President Muhammadu Buhari is not for restructuring. It’s never for restructuring but I believe that restructuring will be a major agenda when power shifts to the South West and as for the North, there doesn’t appear to be any plan or programme in place for the region to adjust itself to the reality of restructuring.

“When you have a southwesterner as a president, I foresee a serious battle between the southwest and the north on what restructuring should be. When the southwest gets control of its executive presidency, the north will depend on the National Assembly and the judiciary for protection but unfortunately, these are the institutions now, that have been desecrated.

“Restructuring cannot happen under President Muhammadu Buhari. It is not possible because he is not in tune with it.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Sani, on Thursday, February 7, reacted to the defence put up by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state following backlash over his controversial comment.

Governor El-Rufai had said during a live programme on NTA: “Those that are calling for anyone to come and intervene in Nigeria, we are waiting for the person that would come and intervene, they would go back in body bags.”

His comment had sparked off controversy and in defense, the governor said his comment was as a result of intelligence report that the PDP was trying to instigate international countries against Nigeria, and give the country a "Venezuela treatment."

The presidency also defended him saying tEl-Rufai's comment was only in defence of the country’s national interest.

Sani while expressing his view, said body bag is not a Gucci or Louis Vuitton handbag. The senator who made shared his opinion on his Twitter handle accused APC of undermining Nigeria’s democracy.
