2019 elections: Petroleum marketers endorse Buhari for 2nd term

- Petroleum marketers under the aegis of IPMAN have endorsed Buhari’s re-election bid

- The marketers praised President Buhari for his achievements in the petroleum industry

- The IPMAN’s president also informed the president about the association’s plan to set up a refinery

The re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari has received a major boost as the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) on Friday, February 1, endorsed the resident for the second term.

IPMAN is a major body responsible for the flow of Petroleum Products across the nation, controlling 80% of investments in the downstream sector with over fifty thousand members scattered throughout Nigeria.

IPMAN’s National Executive Committee members made the endorsement public when they paid a courtesy visit to the president at the Council Chambers, Presidential Villa, Abuja, Vanguard reports.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the IPMAN national president, Chinedu Okoronkwo, thanked President Buhari for his support to the industry.

Okoronkwo noted that the president’s administration has addressed the perennial problem of petroleum products supply that the country has grappled with under previous administrations.

He expressed joy that there was a free flow of petroleum products under the present government.

The IPMAN president added the sector was enmeshed in deep corruption before the Buhari’s administration came on board but such ugly development has become a thing of the past.

He further gave assurance that there will be no fuel scarcity in the country throughout the period of the general elections just as he said the association was ready to continue to work with the Buhari administration to surmount remaining problems in the industry.

He also revealed the association’s plan to set up a refinery in the country.

His words: “Your Excellency we want to thank you immensely for all your support to the oil industry which has made it possible that in the last three years we have not witnessed the incessant fuel scarcity which had dogged previous administrations.

“This is indeed an indication of your managerial capability, sagacity and experience. By virtue of this, I want to assure you our dear president that all members of our great association are solidly behind you – one hundred percent and are unshaken in our resolve to ensure your re-election.

“In the same vein, we are committed to ensuring that this good work continues as we pledge our own contributions to ensure the continuous free flow and distribution of petroleum products across the country without any hitches.

“It is on record that before your emergence, petroleum products distribution was a big racket riddled with highwire scam and decadent corruption. The perennial fuel scarcity was the noticeable symptom of this malaise.

“But when you came on board that evil network of graft in the sector was dismantled and the nation is better for it as there is unhindered products availability year round. This new working environment is inspiring more investment by IPMAN members and we are further emboldened to establish a refinery in the near future with your support.”

The IPMAN president said the association will soon present to the president the details of the refinery project it wants to embark upon.

He continued: “We shall soon furnish your office with a detailed presentation of our plans and timelines for the actualisation of this project. We will not forget to thank your Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari for his immense support which has made it possible for the challenges confronting the oil sector to be always addressed and surmounted.

“Also we are grateful to the GMD of NNPC Mr Maikanti Baru and the MD PPMC for their uncanny support and advice at all times With these quality of men around you and the great changes that have occurred in the downstream sector and many other areas of our national life we have no doubt that your re-election bid will be an overwhelming victory because as it stands, it will be a success for all Nigerians.

“In closing, our dear president, let me request that you kindly approve that we pay you a congratulatory visit after the election and to formally submit our expansion and energy agenda master plan. Mr President, let me assure you that we are ready to work more closely with you to surmount other hurdles in the industry as we have great confidence in your inspirational leadership.”
