- Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, has warned the chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, not to disenfranchise him and his family

- Adams said himself, his wife and family are yet to get their PVCs months after they registered for the voter's card

- The Yoruba leader also said the delay of the cards is not good for the nation's democracy as many may not be able to vote

Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, on Wednesday, January 6, warned chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu not take away his right to vote.

He said: “I think it is suspicious, and I feel bad that as I am speaking to you now, I am yet to receive my PVC, and likewise my wife and the rest of my family. This is not good for us as Nigerians. It portends grave danger for our democracy and the nation in particular.”

He also said that his calling out INEC public not on the assumption that he may have a preferred candidate but because he really needs to exercise his right to vote.

In his words: “Remember, the whole world is watching, especially, at a time when elections are a few days away. I am saying this not because I have any preferred candidate in the coming elections, but because it is my right and that of other Nigerians to vote and be voted for, and I know many Nigerians would have been disenfranchised as a result of INEC’s failure to make PVCs available to the electorate.”

Recall that Legit.ng earlier reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) urged the leadership of the INEC to extend the collection of PVCs by three days.

The PDP said its demand is based on reports across the nation that some compromised INEC officials at the collection centers are deliberately refusing to issue the PVCs to voters, thereby frustrating millions of registered voters from getting their voters cards.
