2019 election: Attacks on police officers unfortunate - IGP Adamu

- Police IG Mohammed Adamu has decried the attacks on police officers

- A deputy commissioner of police was reportedly attacked on Sunday, February 24, in Brass, Bayelsa state

- The IGP, who described the incident as unwarranted and unprovoked, warned that under his watch, such brazen acts of impunity would not be condoned

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu has decried attack on a deputy commissioner of police in Brass, Bayelsa state on Sunday, February 24, as he ordered for the immediate arrest, comprehensive investigation and diligent prosecution of persons involved, no matter their positions in society.

Leadership reports that the IGP, who described the incident as unwarranted and unprovoked, warned that under his watch, such brazen acts of impunity would not be condoned.

Legit.ng gathered that the Force public relations officer, Frank Mba, who revealed this also noted that in a related incident, five male suspects have been arrested in Umuahia, Abia state over an attack on a deputy superintendent of police, who was defending the sanctity of the electoral system at a collation centre in Umuahia.

According to him, “These attacks have once again highlighted the risks and hazards inherent in policing our clime, and the need for stakeholders and government at all levels to continue to support the officers and men of the Force in the discharge of their responsibilities."

The IGP has commended all Nigerians, whom, by their words and actions, have clearly identified with the Force by denouncing these barbaric and uncivilised actions against police officers performing their legitimate duties.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously previously reported that the Kaduna state police command, on Sunday, February 24, warned that it would deal decisively with persons and groups planning to stage any form of protest or procession in the state.

The command said the ban on protests in the state was still in force and would not condone any attempt to breach the order with the aim of destabilising existing peace.

It was gathered that the commissioner of police in the state, Ahmad Abdur-Rahman, said at a press briefing in Kaduna that the command had received report on such plan and advised those hatching it to shelve the idea.
