Youth wing gives SDP ultimatum to name Gana presidential candidate

- The Social Democratic Party youth has appealed to the leadership of the party to send the name of Jerry Gana to INEC as its presidential candidate

- The national youth leader, Nwanka Stanley, made this appeal at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, January 23

- Donald Duke, a former governor of Cross River state, and Gana had been in a tussle over the SDP presidential candidature

The youth wing of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has given an ultimatum of 24 hours within which the party should send the name of a former minister of information, Jerry Gana, to the INEC as the presidential candidate of the party.

Premium Times reports that the national youth leader, Nwanka Stanley, made this known at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, January 23.

Donald Duke, a former governor of Cross River state, and Gana had been in a tussle over the SDP presidential candidature. A court had ruled recently in Gana's favour.

Duke won the primary but a court ruled that he should not have contested, citing the stipulation of a zoning arrangement in the constitution of the party.

Stanley said: “The Delta state chairman, who parades himself as the chairman of chairmen, with his cohort Dogara, having lost the followership of his co-chairmen and should henceforth desist from fomenting further troubles for the party.

''They should go and man their various states and ensure they deliver the Party in the fought coming general elections.''

The youth leader said SDP remains the credible alternative for Nigerians and should be seen doing the right thing. He called on the members to rise up and join hands with the youth to rescue the party.

He said if nothing was done before the ultimatum expires they would take an “alternative” which he refused to disclose. After the briefing, the youth leaders marched to the national secretariat of the party to protest.

The youth wing of the SDP gave an ultimatum of 24 hours within which the party should send the name of Jerry Gana, a former senator to the Independent National Electoral Commission as the presidential candidate of the party.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that a high court sitting in FCT in Maitama said a former minister of information, Jerry Gana, the winner of the presidential primary election of the Social Democratic Party conducted on October 6.

The party had declared a former governor of Cross River, Donald Duke, the winner of the election and its flag bearer for the 2019 general elections.

The party said that Duke polled 812 votes while Gana had 611. However, Gana went to court seeking that it would declare him the winner in line with the zoning and rotation formula of the party’s constitution.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
