Why I'm sure Amaechi's remarks were cut and pasted out of context - Former aide reveals

- Rotimi Amaech's former aide, Ibim Semenitari, has referred to audio recordings on remarks made by the minister as done out of context to blackmail him

- Semenitari said that the recordings were clear cases of cut and paste work to portray the minister in negative light

- She further said that her statements on the development do not necessarily constitute any form of defence for the minister

Ibim Semenitari, Rotimi Amaechi’s former aide, has said that the recently released audio recording of the minister of transportation cut and pasted and that the his actual remarks were made ‘not in the context of negativity, but as a positive indication of a new Nigeria where pain will ultimately translate to gain.’

Semenitari further claimed that the tape was made from ‘different conversations taken out of context and brought together to create a narrative that is far from the truth.’

She said that in former President Goodluck Jonathan’s regime, Amaechi had made these remarks at several media talks in which he allegedly bewailed the past administration's inability to take counsel and that he may have spoken about the frugality of the Buhari regime but he did so not in the context of negativity but as a positive indication of a new Nigeria where things will work out as expected but at a high price, Vanguard reports.

Ibim Semenitari in a recent statement on the development said: "Let me first make it clear that I am not speaking for the Honourable Minister nor for his media team. He has quite competent hands who can do so.

"However, I feel compelled as someone who had sat in at myriads of interviews granted by the Honourable minister both when he was governor and a little while after that to correct what I believe is deliberate twisting of what he had said.

"First a bit of background to put things in context. Anyone who has sat with Amaechi in private discussions or at a media interview will agree that he has been consistent in expressing the belief that most Nigerians do not hate corruption but simply hate the fact that they are not the ones perpetuating the corruption.

"This has been his view expressed at different times in press interviews. It is for this reason that he has maintained that only a bloody revolution somewhat like the Rawlings revolution in Ghana will change Nigeria.

"During the Jonathan era, he had made these comments at various media discussions during which time he had also lamented about the former President’s refusal to listen and take counsel. Media colleagues at these events I am sure will remember.

"It is for this reason that I am certain the first recording was from one of those parleys. It is possible that the Honourable Minister has also on some occasions spoken about the frugality of the Buhari regime but he did so not in the context of negativity but as a positive indication of a new Nigeria where pain will ultimately translate to gain.

"Again I say this with the privilege of knowing his governance worldview in this regards. The reason I have bothered to speak about this is because ‘This is a clear case of cut and paste.

"Different conversations taken out of context and brought together to create a narrative that is far from the truth.

"I am saddened by the fact that a purported conversation meant in the first place to be not for reportage and in strict confidence is being peddled. Though I wasn’t present at this so-called meeting but I gleaned this from the supposed comments of the minister in the peddled tape itself.

"Like I said, I do not hold brief for the minister nor can speak for his media team but I do owe my country, my profession and posterity the truth that I know. Happy new year again and may Nigeria prosper."

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that an audio recording which featured Amaechi allegedly criticising President Muhammadu Buhari was causing disquiet in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Leaders of the party had been having discussions about the recording, since it was released. Legit.ng gathered that some of the leaders believe the minister should speak on the recording, while others believe it.

A former Director-General of the Nigeria Maritime Agency, Buba Galadima, has accused the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria of witch-hunt after the agency took possession of his business and assets on Tuesday in Abuja. Galadima, an ardent critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, claimed that he did not borrow money or have unpaid debt with Unity Bank, which lodged a complaint against him and occasioned AMCON’s move on Tuesday. The properties taken over include House No. 15, Addis Ababa Crescent, Wuse Zone 4, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and House No. 4, Bangui Street, Wuse 2, also in Abuja.  Reacting to the situation, Galadima said, “This is an attempt to disgrace and break me down. This is injustice and an attempt to humiliate me. "But I am unbreakable and they can never silence me. They sacked me and over 50 people that sleep in the apartment. "We don’t know where to go.
