What Yobe deputy governor Aliyu got for promoting Islam

- The south Qur’anic recitation competitors’ association in Yobe has honoured the state's deputy governor, Abubakar Aliyu, for his effort in promoting Islam

- The group saluted Aliyu and gave him an honourary award for initiating and sponsoring the exercise in the state

- It said that by his gesture, Aliyu is fostering the spirit of true love and brotherhood among Muslims in the state

Abubakar Aliyu, the deputy governor of Yobe has been honoured with an award, by the south Qur’anic recitation competitors’ association for his remarkable service to Islam especially for initiating and facilitating the competition in the zone, Daily Trust reports.

The Mai of Potiskum, Alhaji Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya, who presented the award to Aliyu saluted his benevolent spirit.

Bauya added that the competition would facilitate reading and understanding of the Holy Qur’an and promote true love and brotherhood among Muslims.

On his part, Aliyu commended the organizing committee for its commitment to promoting such exercises and urged individuals to join hands to support the endeavour.

The deputy governor further said that the promotion of Qur’anic recitation and the work of assisting the less privileged orphans should be given paramount attention.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched fresh attacks on Katarko, a town located 20 kilometres to the southern part of the state capital, Damaturu, less than 48 hours after some insurgents ambushed a military base in Kuka-reta, 20 kilometres east of Damaturu.

Thirteen soldiers were reportedly killed in the attack on the military base in Kuka-reta, while the base was totally destroyed.

Legit.ng gathered that a resident, Malam Muhammad Dallatu, who escaped the attack, said the assailants drove to the town in 10 Hilux vans at about 5:45 pm on Wednesday, December 26.
