Sarri makes surprise statement about Chelsea's new signing

- Maurizio Sarri's side were held to 0-0 scoreline with Southampton at Stamford Bridge

- The Blues manager revealed he was not aware of their new signing until it was a done deal

- Chelsea failed to close the gap on third-placed Manchester City following their draw

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed he is not aware of the club's new signing, Christian Pulisic until it was done.

The Blues paid a whopping £57.8million to sign the 20-year-old United States star from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

The Italian was asked about the Pulisic's signing after Wednesday's draw against Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

"I didn't know anything about Pulisic yesterday," revealed Sarri. “The club asked my opinion about him one month ago.

"My opinion was positive and today I've known that the deal is done but I didn’t know anything.

“I am not in charge of the market so I have to tend to my matches and play every three days. I can only say my opinion to the club."

The United States international will remain at the Signa Iguna Park until the end of the season before making a return back to the west London club.

The signing does not seem to have helped the Blues misfiring upfront after they were held to a 0-0 draw by the Saints in a Premier League encounter.

The 2016/17 champions missed a chance to close in within a point off third-placed Manchester City who have a game at hand against league-leaders Liverpool.

Sarri's men have scored 12 goals in their last 11 Premier League matches having managed to find the back of the net 26 times in their opening games of the season.

“The club knows very well my opinion," added Sarri. "I think we need something different for characteristics."

“I have to try to improve my players, my team, my offensive base. Our build-up play is very good. Now we have to improve in the last 20 metres.

“The problem is today it was important to change the match and it was impossible."

The Transitional Phase of African Poetry

The Transitional Phase The second phase, which we have chosen to call transitional, is represented by the poetry of writers like Abioseh Nicol, Gabriel Okara, Kwesi Brew, Dennis Brutus, Lenrie Peters and Joseph Kariuki. This is poetry which is written by people we normally refer to as modem and who may be thought of as belonging to the third phase. The characteristics of this poetry are its competent and articulate use of the received European language, its unforced grasp of Africa’s physical, cultural and socio-political environment and often its lyricism. To distinguish this type of poetry we have to refer back to the concept of appropriation we introduced earlier. At the simplest and basic level, the cultural mandate of possessing a people’s piece of the earth involves a mental and emotional homecoming within the physical environment. Poems like Brew’s ‘‘Dry season”, Okara’s “Call of the River Nun”, Nicol’s “The meaning of Africa” and Soyinka’s “Season”, to give a few examples,

The pioneering phase of African Poetry

The pioneering phase We have called the first phase that of the pioneers. But since the phrase “pioneer poets” has often been used of writers of English expression like Osadebay, Casely-Hayford and Dei-Anag, we should point out that our “pioneer phase” also includes Negritude poets of French expression. The poetry of this phase is that of writers in “exile” keenly aware of being colonials, whose identity was under siege. It is a poetry of protest against exploitation and racial discrimination, of agitation for political independence, of nostalgic evocation of Africa’s past and visions of her future. However, although these were themes common to poets of both English and French expression, the obvious differences between the Francophone poets and the Anglophone writers of the 1930s and 1940s have been generally noted. Because of the intensity with which they felt their physical exile from Africa, coupled with their exposure to the experimental contemporary modes of writing in F
