Rigging plot: PDP hires former INEC chairman as election consultant - Nabena

- APC deputy spokesman, Yekini Nabena, has accused the PDP of plotting to rig the 2019 general elections

- The APC chieftain also accused Nigeria's main opposition party of hiring a former INEC chairman to perfect the plot

- Nabena further challenged the PDP and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to deny the allegation

The deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena has accused Nigeria's main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of hiring a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as an 'election consultant' for the forthcoming polls.

The APC chieftain alleged that the move by the PDP is geared towards rigging the election in its favour.

Nabena, who spoke with journalists on Sunday, January 13 in Abuja, however, refused to disclose the name of the former INEC chairman.

He instead challenged the PDP and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to deny the allegation and equally charged relevant authorities to investigate the veracity of his claim.

“Following the exposure of the PDP's initial plot to use Russian hackers to compromise INEC servers, the PDP has now hired a former INEC chairman as an election consultant. This INEC chairman was notorious for rigging elections for the PDP over the years.

“The plan is to use INEC officials who remain loyal to the former INEC chairman and under his payroll to compromise the system from within,” Nabena said.

Commenting on the uproar that greeted the recent appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as chairperson of INEC's ad hoc committee on national collation centre for the elections, Nabena said Nigerians should not be deceived by the PDP-sponsored protest and fake news over her appointment.

“The baseless protest is a ploy to create a distraction for their election rigging and hacking plans.

“The PDP has deliberately chosen to be blind to the fact that Mrs. Amina Zakari is not a blood relation of the president as it alleges. Infact, her appointment was done by their very own former President Goodluck Jonathan.

“Besides, INEC has publicly stated the roles of it's recently inaugurates adhoc committees. The collation centre committee chaired by Mrs. Amina Zakari is in charge of operational logistics of the centre such as electricity, internet, live transmission as well as accreditation for access to the ICC and security of the venue.

“Mrs. Amina Zakari's committee is not saddled with actual collation of results. Only the chairman of INEC, who is the returning officer for presidential election, decides the validity of votes,” he said.

The Bayelsa-born APC chieftain had earlier accused the PDP's vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi of double standards.

Nabena, in a statement sent to Legit.ng on Wednesday, January 9, also accused the former Anambra state governor of alleged dirty deals while he was in office.

He further challenged Obi to explain how his administration expended his security vote as governor, adding that the Atiku presidential campaign team and PDP have turned to dr*g dealers in South Africa for financial assistance ahead of the elections.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
