PDP asks Zakari to be decent, recuse herself from appointment

- Mrs Amina Zakari has been urged to recuse herself from her appointment as the chairperson of the Collation Centre Committee for the 2019 elections

- The presidency had however explained that Mrs Zakari and President Muhammadu Buhari are not related by blood

- PDP said President Buhari should not have appointed her given their relationship

Ahead of 2019 general elections, and following her appointments as the chairperson of the Collation Centre Committee for the elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Mrs Amina Zakari to recuse herself from her appointment.

Osita Chidoka, a spokesperson for PDP’s presidential campaign council made the call during his appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

The presidency had however explained that Mrs Zakari and President Muhammadu Buhari are not related by blood.

“We expected her to say, ‘President Buhari is a member of my family, even if it is not a blood relationship, I will not be party to the process of electing him as a President,” the former minister said.

“She remains an INEC commissioner, she could have just been decent enough to say I recuse myself. I think that there is a case of morality.”

“I hear the president said that she is actually not related by blood, but they are related because his sister got married to her father and so, she’s a niece actually. I find it strange that she said she is not related to President Buhari.”

“They said the PDP appointed her, yes, the PDP appointed her in 2010. The president reappointed her as a national commissioner after he made her acting chairman of INEC,” he added.

“If we are to go by the fact that she is a relative, she ought not to have been appointed by the President. Let’s assume there is no law against that in Nigeria; but moral standards, some form of good behaviour.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) urged the National Peace Committee to call President Muhammadu Buhari to order.

The party said Buhari’s desperation for self-succession became a major threat to Nigeria's national unity, stability and peaceful electoral process.

The party further alleged that the Buhari presidency has been overheating the polity with its recent actions.

A former Director-General of the Nigeria Maritime Agency, Buba Galadima, has accused the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria of witch-hunt after the agency took possession of his business and assets on Tuesday in Abuja. Galadima, an ardent critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, claimed that he did not borrow money or have unpaid debt with Unity Bank, which lodged a complaint against him and occasioned AMCON’s move on Tuesday. The properties taken over include House No. 15, Addis Ababa Crescent, Wuse Zone 4, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and House No. 4, Bangui Street, Wuse 2, also in Abuja.  Reacting to the situation, Galadima said, “This is an attempt to disgrace and break me down. This is injustice and an attempt to humiliate me. "But I am unbreakable and they can never silence me. They sacked me and over 50 people that sleep in the apartment. "We don’t know where to go.
