At the hearing, INEC's counsel, Adesina Agbede, applied to close the case. The tribunal also adjourned the hearing till Wednesday, January 30 to enable the Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to begin his defence, Punch reports.

The tribunal is hearing the petition filed by PDP and Adeleke in the governorship election in which he challenged the position by INEC that Oyetola, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, was the winner of the poll.

The opposition party is claiming that both the exercise and the results were manipulated in the favour of Oyetola

Justice Ibrahim Sirajo, the chairman of the tribunal, on Thursday said that the hearing has been adjourned till the said date to allow the governor, who is the second respondent, put forward his defence.

On his part, Paul Ananaba, a counsel for the petitioner, INEC had endorsed and conceded to the PDP's petition for Adeleke to be declared winner of the poll.

Ananaba said: “By closing its case without any defence, INEC is saying it cannot challenge the petitioner’s case. INEC has accepted that we are right in our prayers that the rightful winner of the election is PDP’S Ademola Adeleke.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the senator representing Kogi west at the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, on Friday, November 9, predicted that Adeleke would regain his mandate.

Melaye said this on one of his social media handles describing "Adeleke as a governor-in-waiting." Adeleke lost the election to Oyetola, who was sworn-in to succeed Rauf Aregbesola.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
