Okorocha mocks Ohanaeze for endorsing Atiku for 2019 election despite its failure in 2015 polls

- Governor Rochas Okorocha has expressed displeasure at Ohanaeze Ndigbo's endorsment of PDP's Atiku over APC's President Buhari in the 2019 election

- Okorocha said in a statement by his media aide Onwuemeodo that Ohanaeze should have stayed out of politics

- The governor mocked the pan-Igbo body, noting that its choice of candidate in the 2015 election ended up losing at the polls

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has blasted leaders of pan-Igbo organization Ohanaeze Ndigbo for endorsing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP's) candidate Atiku Abubakar as its choice in the oncoming 2019 presidential election.

Daily Sun reports that Okorocha, who is of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the Igbo social cultural body in a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo.

He said: “Its adoption of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should be seen as a folklore and should not give anybody concern. The adoption is neither here nor there, since it has no electoral value."

The statement noted that Ohanaeze should have stayed out of politics since it is not a political organization and also because its endorsements in the past had failed to yield results.

Okorocha said: “One would have expected Ohanaeze to exercise caution this time following what happened in 2015. Indeed, the organization should have done things differently, especially when it remembers that all Igbos, whether in PDP, APC, APGA, ADC or SDP, are presumed to be members of Ohanaeze."

The governor however expressed confidence that even without Ohanaeze's endorsement, "President Muhammadu Buhari will win in the South-East and the general election proper. So, Igbos in APC should remain focused and not make the adoption an issue.”

Legit.ng had reported that the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo, formally endorsed the presidential candidate of the PDP in the forthcoming general election, Atiku Abubakar.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
