Minimum Wage: Nigerian governors' meeting failed to hold

- The Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) failed to meet on January 16

- The NGF meeting was called off after the governors present failed to form a qurom

- The issue of minimum wage was supposed to be discussed during the meeting

The meeting of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) scheduled for Wednesday, January 16, was called off after most of the governors refused to show up for their meeting and thus those present couldn't form a qurom.

Channels TV reports that those present included the chairman of the forum and governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari, as well as governors of Jigawa, Adamawa, Niger and Bauchi.

The governors of Enugu and Kaduna states were represented by their deputies.

The other 29 governors were neither present nor did they send anyone to represent them.

The governors were supposed to discuss the minimum wage for Nigerian workers during the meeting but their inability to form a qurom stalled this.

The Wednesday's meeting was expected to consolidate on the position taken by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), during an extraordinary meeting which held Tuesday at the Presidential Villa.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that after the federal executive council meeting, which was held on Tuesday, January 15, and presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, the federal government disclosed its plan to tender the resolution of FEC meeting to the National Economic Council (NEC).

The Tuesday meeting, federal government agreed to the new N30,000 national minimum wage and is planning to forward its proposal and resolution to NEC meeting, which will hold on Thursday, January 17.

The national executive council is constituted of state governors, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and some major ministries, departments and government agencies.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
