Kwara governor bans street campaigns, rallies

- Kwara governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has banned street rallies in the state

- The governor said this ban will prevent repeated violent attacks in the state

- Governor Ahmed has also set up a taskforce to curb future violence

Kwara governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has banned street campaigns and rallies in the state after the reent violent attack in the Ilorin, the capital of Kwara.

The governor who also set up a taskforce to prevent future violent attacks, said aid only political rallies in designated areas and with prior notification to the state police command would be allowed henceforth, Daily Trust reports.

The governor said: “The state police command is hereby authorised to ensure full compliance.

Thuggery, vandalism, intimidation and other forms of criminality will neither be allowed no condoned in any part of the state.

“Following assurances by the security agencies, I urge all our people to go about their lawful activities without fear for their safety. Our security agencies are capable and ready to forestall any further recurrence of such ugly incidents.

“As your governor, I assure you that no effort will be spared by my government to protect the lives and property of all law-abiding residents of the state. I also urge you to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, movements and developments to the security agencies for prompt action.

“In this regard, I have approved the establishment of a Joint Military Task Force comprising the police, army, navy, air force, Department of State Security, Civil Defence and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). This body is tasked with the responsibility of providing an extra layer of security and preventing a recurrence of the political violence witnessed in the last couple of days."

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kwara state, Malam Garba Attahiru-Madami, expressed concern over the recent political violence in the state.

Attahiru-Madami, who spoke at an interactive session with traditional rulers in the state on Monday, January 14, in Ilorin, appealed to them to educate their subjects on the need to maintain peace during and after the general elections.

He said the traditional rulers were brought to the interactive session to rub minds ahead of the elections.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
