Hope rises as Governor Shettima speaks on the future of Borno after Boko Haram, flags off ‘pythin dance’ (photos)

The governor of Borno, Kashim Shettima, has flagged off the ‘Exercise Egwu Eke III (Python Dance) in Maiduguri as he expressed confidence and optimism that the state will regain its glory again after years of Boko Haram attacks.

Governor Shettima stated this on Monday, January, 14, at the event held at the ‘Cashew Plantation’, 7 Division Step-up Tactical Headquarters, Maiduguri.

Represented by the speaker of the Borno state House of Assembly, Right Honourable Abdulkarim Lawan, the governor applauded the untiring effort of the Nigerian Army in combating the menace of the Boko Haram and insurgency, especially in the north eastern part of the country.

The governor said: "We are proud of the Nigerian Army, and we are sure that Borno will regain its glory and the people will smile again.”

A statement by Colonel Ado Isa, the Deputy Director of Public Relations, 7 Division Nigerian Army, quoted the governor as giving his assurance to continue to collaborate with the Army and other security agencies in the state.

He also emphasized that the people of Borno remain very optimistic that the launch of the exercise will bring lasting peace and tranquility.

Governor Shettima, according to the statement, urged the Nigerian Army to continue with the good work by maintaining the synergy with other security agencies and remain apolitical as the election draws nearer.

On his part, the Theatre Commander (TC), Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Benson Akinroluyo praised the effort and commitment of the leadership, officers and men of 7 Division.

He also appreciated the state government for its support and promised to monitor every step of the exercise to ensure the aim is achieved in due course.

In his remark, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 1, Operation Lafiya Dole, Brigadier General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu, described the exercise as an internal security operation aimed at checkmating the activities of criminals as well as to ensure the smooth conduct of the forthcoming general elections.

The Army officer added that the python will no doubt swallow all criminals and insurgents, while the people of Borno will peacefully exercise their franchise unhindered.

He appreciated the state government for its support and cooperation and reiterated that the flag-off of the exercise is to consolidate on the successes recorded so far in ‘Python Dance 1and 2’ which was launched in 2018 in the eastern part of the country.

He warned all criminal elements and would-be election thugs to steer clear or face the raging wrath of the python coupled with the fierce fighting spirit of the dogged and gallant troops of 7 Division Nigerian Army.

Legit.ng earlier reported that troops of the Nigerian Army, in the afternoon of Sunday, January 13, successfully detonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by members of the Boko Haram insurgent groups in the Konduga area of Borno state.
