Nigeria's minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Tuesday, January 8, announced that the Federal Government has ordered the importation of 30 coaches and 300 wagons for the Lagos-Ibadan railway project.
Amaechi while speaking during the assessment of the ongoing work being done on the project by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company said these new coaches and wagons will increase the transportation of passengers and goods from Lagos to others states in the southwest region.
Punch reports that the minister also noted that the FG has directed the CCECC to speed up its work on the Iju-Agbado section of the project.

According to Amaechi, the project should be ready for test-run within the next two weeks.
“Getting to Abeokuta you will see that there’s an improvement but the problem they have now is the civil work between Agbado and Iju, which is critical to me because I don’t think passengers will go to Agbado to join the train.
“I believe that the closer we are to Lagos the better for the rail and that is why I had to tell them to tell me what they will do about this before the next two weeks, although there’s a huge improvement up to this point. I want them to speed up the construction from Iju to Agbado," Amaechi said.
Also speaking, the managing director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Fidet Okhiria, confirming the announcement by the minister said the commission is also expecting to sets of Diesel Multiple Units.

Okhiria said the DMUs would be made up of 10 coaches each.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Amaechi, the minister of transportation, has said that the National Assembly’s refusal to allow government access to a $30bn foreign loan facility is responsible for delaying the complete overhaul of the country’s railway network.
The minister of transportation made the claim when he appeared before the Senate joint committees on land transport and foreign and local debts, which is investigating the alleged abandonment of the eastern rail lines in the rail revitalisation projects across the country.
Amaechi noted that the federal government has no plan to exclude the southeast region from the rail project, noting that the region was already captured in the 2018 borrowing plans of the federal government.
