FG begs striking lecturers, says their demands will be met soon

- FG has begged the striking lecturers across the country to be patient with the government

- The plea was made on Thursday, January 17, in Offa, Kwara state, by the minister of education, Adamu Adamu

- Adamu assured the striking lecturers that the federal government would meet the demands as soon a possible

The federal government has appealed to the striking members of various staff unions in all higher institutions in Nigeria to be patient with the government.

Daily Trust reports that while speaking during the 10th convocation ceremony of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara state, on January 17, the minister of education, Adamu Adamu, said that efforts were ongoing to address their demands.

Legit.ng gathered that the minister said that peaceful coexistence is very important in the educational institutions before effective learning could only take place.

He said: “Peaceful coexistence is very important in our educational institutions because effective learning can only take place in a peaceful environment.”

Also speaking, the rector of the institution, Lateef Olatunji, said the 2017/2018 set produced 2,352 Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates including 796 full time students and 1,767 part time students in the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) category.

The rector, who announced that the institution had commenced Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes in affiliation with the Federal University of Technology, Minna, said that a large number of courses offered in the polytechnic were accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Olatunji also urged the graduates to tap from abundant entrepreneurial skills gained in the polytechnic to launch themselves into self employment.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported aggrieved members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) disrupted the meeting hosted by the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, and chased zonal officers in different directions, Daily Independent reports.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
