FERMA begins rehabilitation works on Abuja-Keffi road

- Some failed and critical portions of the Abuja-Keffi dual carriageway are currently undergoing comprehensive rehabilitation works

- The managing director of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, Engineer Nurudeen Rafindadi, made this disclosure

- The Abuja-Keffi road is a very critical national road because it is a gateway to some northern states

The managing director of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engineer Nurudeen Rafindadi, has said that comprehensive rehabilitation works have begun on some failed and critical portions of the Abuja-Keffi dual carriageway.

Nurudeen made the disclosure during the inspection of ongoing repair works by his men from the Mugadishu cantonment bridge to the Maraba stretch of the road, Leadership reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the FERMA boss was represented by the road maintenance engineer in charge of the Federal Capital Territory, Engineer Ambrose Omame.

He said: “We at FERMA are working in line with the agency’s mandate to keep roads across the country in good shape and ensure that motorists and commuters enjoy Nigerian roads.

"The Abuja-Keffi road is a very critical national road not just because of its proximity to the nation’s capital but because it is a gateway to some northern states. And as you know the road traverses a densely populated area."

Explaining why the agency is carrying out the work at night, he said: "With the nature of this ever-busy road any attempt to carry out such comprehensive work during day will amount to punishing the residents. Even the desilting work we carry out on the roadside drainages during the day causes gridlock.

He assured that FERMA would sustain the night work initiative so that residents would not go through hardship due to the works.

"The work currently going on include the removal of failed portions on the Kugbo slope and the immediate laying of fresh Asphalt. At the very problematic building material area of the road which is famous for flooding during the rainy season, FERMA is building a box culvert and expanding the drainage that stretches towards the boundary area to ensure free flow of water.
