Atiku tops list of most searched presidential candidates (see list)

- Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate for the 2019 election, has topped the most searched presidential candidate list on Google trends

- The rankings indicate that votes in the February 16th presidential poll may largely be shared between Atiku, Muhammadu Buhari and Kinglsey Moghalu

- The elections may, however, be more complicated this time around as both Atiku and Buhari are both Muslim northerners

In the last seven days, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has topped the most searched presidential candidate list on Google trends.

Atiku was followed by President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and in third position was Kingsley Moghalu, presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), The Guardian reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the candidates were ranked as follows:

1. Atiku Abubakar

2. Muhammadu Buhari

3. Kingsley Moghalu

4. Fela Durotoye

5. Omoyele Sowore

6. Donald Duke

7. Chris Okotie

8. Aliyu Ibrahim

9. Usman Ibrahim

10. Ahmed Buhari

The rankings indicate that votes in the February 16th presidential poll may largely be shared between Atiku, Buhari and Moghalu.

While Moghalu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria is optimistic of getting his first political office with his “It is time” message, Atiku is aggressively pushing his political mantra “Get Nigeria Working Again”, even as the incumbent president fights to return to Aso Rock.

The elections may be more complicated this time around as both Atiku and Buhari are both Muslim northerners; as against previous elections where the easiest way for a candidate to win the presidency was to corner the votes of two of the country’s three main ethnic blocks - the Hausa speakers in the North, the Yoruba in the south-west and the Igbos in the south-east.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Igbo Mandate for Good Governance, a pressure group, endorsed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the 2019 election.

The national coordinator of the group, Sabinus Amako, made the group’s position known in Owerri on Friday, January 11.

Amako explained that the group endorsed Atiku as its own preference of presidential candidate because he was the only credible choice for the race. He described the former vice president as a God-sent, adding that the pair of Atiku and Peter Obi were capable of turning around the country’s economy.
