African football star beats Messi and Ronaldo to top 2018 goals charts

Barcelona star Lionel Messi and Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo finished the year 2018 in Europe as highest goalscorers with the Argentine scoring 51, while the Portuguese netted 49.

During the football campaign in 2018, Lionel Messi was superb for his club winning the Copa del Rey title and also the Spanish La Liga trophy.

Ronaldo on the other hand won the the 2017/18 Champions League title with Real Madrid before he made a world record move to Juventus.

But there is an unknown African footballer who scored more goals than Ronaldo and Messi in the year 2018.

And his name is Baghdad Bounedjah who plays for Qatar side Al Sadd and scored a remarkable 59 goals in the last calendar year.

Baghdad finished the leading scorer in the Asian Champions League as his 13 goals helped Al Sadd reach the semifinal.

And he also earned a hero's ovation early in the season when he scored a remarkable seven goals in a 10-1 demolition of Al Arabi.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Argentina FA made it clear that they will not give any player the No 10 jersey in their hopes of convincing Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi to make a return to international duty.

Lionel Messi is yet to announce his international retirement but the forward has told the FA that he wants to be excused from playing for the national team for the rest of this year.

He made this known after the 2018 FIFA World Cup where Argentina were sent out of the tournament by France in the round of 16.
