22-year-old man gets N200,000 bail over alleged theft of N20,000

- A 22-year-old man identified as Nifemi Tunde was arraigned for allegedly stealing N20,000

- The suspect was on Wednesday, January 2, given a bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum

- Tunde was accused of breaking into the house of one Olabode Olayinka, to steal N20, 000 cash

The police in Ogun on Wednesday, January 2, arraigned a 22-year-old man, Nifemi Tunde, for allegedly breaking into a home to steal N20, 000 cash.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tunde, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and burglary.

Legit.ng gathers that the magistrate, AF Ojelade, however, granted the accused bail in the sum of the N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum. She said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on December 13, about 1.30 p.m. at Serike area of Ota in Ogun.

Gbesi said the accused broke into the house of the complainant, Olabode Olayinka, to steal N20, 000 cash. He said the accused was caught by security guards and handed over to the police.

Gbesi said the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 413 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate adjourned the case till Friday, January 11, for further hearing.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that A Kubwa grade 1 area court on Wednesday, August 29, sentenced a 32-year-old man, Ahmed Hassan, to six months in jail for stealing N5,000.

The judge, Malam Abdulwahab Mohammed, however, gave Hassan an option of N30,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.

Mohammed convicted and sentenced Hassan following his guilty pleas to the charges of house breaking, mischief and theft.

‎Earlier, the prosecutor, John Okpa, had told the court that one Kasimu Mohammed of Life Camp, Abuja reported the matter at Life Camp police station on August 20.

He explained that Hassan broke into the complainant’s house, damaged the window and stole N5,000 on the said date.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
