2019: If APC, Oyo governor want to set state ablaze, we are ready to put petrol - Ex-governor Akala vows

- He also vowed that all plans have been perfected to stop any attempt to rig the election in the state by Governor Abiola Ajimobi and APC

A former governor of Oyo state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, has given hits on the ploy currently deployed by the opposition parties in the state to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from Agodi government house on May 2019.

Speaking during an interview on Fresh FM in Ibadan, the governorship candidate of Action Democratic Party (ADP) vowed that APC would not retain the seat of government as plans are ongoing to stop the ruling party in 2019, Nigerian Tribune reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Akala, who disclosed that the split within opposition parties in 2015 paved way for Governor Abiola Ajimobi to return as governor with 32% of the total votes cast, however said he was not assure of the would-be winner.

He said: “I will not tell you what we are doing as opposition parties in Oyo State. But I want to tell you that what happened in 2015 when the opposition could not unite against the ruling APC will not repeat itself.

“That, I can assure you. I can even swear on oath that it will not happen. How we are going to ensure APC does not return, I won’t give you the formula. Leave that to us.

“One thing I want to tell you is that, by the special grace of God, APC will not rule Oyo state in 2019. Whatever it will take, we will give. We are ready.

"We are on air, so I won’t want to speak too much. The person that will be governor, we will know. But it is not going to be APC candidate.”

The ADP gubernatorial candidate also revealed the commitment of the people of the state to prevent rigging of the election, adding that all hands are on decks to put a stop to a force trying to override the people's interest during election.

He added: "That will never happen again. It was a sad experience. As a matter of fact, anybody trying to rig election in Oyo State will not find it easy. Do you what happened in Turkey when they wanted to seize power there? We saw civilians climbing armoured tanks and daring the soldiers.

“In 2019, you will see voters climbing armoured tanks if they rig in Oyo state. We are fully ready. I know that the man governing Oyo state now will not like to set the state ablaze. If he wants to do that, we will help him put petrol. Nobody should rig. Let Oyo state people decide who governs them.

“It is not necessary it should be Alao-Akala. People should decide who governs them and in an attempt to rig, to bring the military to harass the people of the state, we will know what to do when the time comes.

“We are not trying to threaten anybody. Nobody should think we are fools. We will not take it. And I mean it and we are ready. I have been in this game for a long time."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Adebayo Alao-Akala, on Monday, December 24, stated that his ambition to be governor again was hinged on his concern that the state had lost its pacesetter status, despite its abundant resources, and that residents of the state grappled with pains and hardship.

In a Christmas message he personally signed, Alao-Akala called for introspection on the good governance he offered between 2007 and 2011, thereby stating that he was determined to take the state from nadir to the apex, in terms of good governance.

The Transitional Phase of African Poetry

The Transitional Phase The second phase, which we have chosen to call transitional, is represented by the poetry of writers like Abioseh Nicol, Gabriel Okara, Kwesi Brew, Dennis Brutus, Lenrie Peters and Joseph Kariuki. This is poetry which is written by people we normally refer to as modem and who may be thought of as belonging to the third phase. The characteristics of this poetry are its competent and articulate use of the received European language, its unforced grasp of Africa’s physical, cultural and socio-political environment and often its lyricism. To distinguish this type of poetry we have to refer back to the concept of appropriation we introduced earlier. At the simplest and basic level, the cultural mandate of possessing a people’s piece of the earth involves a mental and emotional homecoming within the physical environment. Poems like Brew’s ‘‘Dry season”, Okara’s “Call of the River Nun”, Nicol’s “The meaning of Africa” and Soyinka’s “Season”, to give a few examples,

The pioneering phase of African Poetry

The pioneering phase We have called the first phase that of the pioneers. But since the phrase “pioneer poets” has often been used of writers of English expression like Osadebay, Casely-Hayford and Dei-Anag, we should point out that our “pioneer phase” also includes Negritude poets of French expression. The poetry of this phase is that of writers in “exile” keenly aware of being colonials, whose identity was under siege. It is a poetry of protest against exploitation and racial discrimination, of agitation for political independence, of nostalgic evocation of Africa’s past and visions of her future. However, although these were themes common to poets of both English and French expression, the obvious differences between the Francophone poets and the Anglophone writers of the 1930s and 1940s have been generally noted. Because of the intensity with which they felt their physical exile from Africa, coupled with their exposure to the experimental contemporary modes of writing in F
